OUR PRACTICE

What is an Oculoplastic Surgeon?

Oculoplastic Surgeons, also known as Oculofacial or Ophthalmic Plastic & Reconstructive Surgeons, are subspecialists in the field of Ophthalmology that focus on the medical and surgical treatment of disorders of the eyelids, orbit (eye socket), lacrimal (tear) system, and the surrounding face.  An Oculoplastic Surgeon is a medical doctor (MD) with training in eye surgery as well as further specialization in plastic surgery relating to the eye and surrounding structures.

The eyelids and tissues around the eye (the forehead-eyelid-cheek region) are complex and delicate structures that are critical for protecting normal vision and maintaining a normal facial aesthetic. Oculoplastic Surgeons are unique in that they are specifically trained to evaluate and treat eyelid and facial conditions, with the knowledge of how to best care for and protect the eyes. Many Oculoplastic Surgeons perform both reconstructive and cosmetic surgery, as well as procedures for vision or life threatening conditions such as cancers or tumors around the eye or eye socket.

Each patient is unique in their anatomy and facial appearance. Therefore, a “one size fits all” approach to surgery will not provide the best results. When selecting a surgeon to perform an eyelid or facial procedure near the eyes or brows, look for an Oculoplastic Surgeon with knowledge in a wide variety of techniques to provide a customized approach to achieving the best possible outcome.

My practice philosophy is to treat each patient as if they were a member of my own family. With this in mind, my patients and I can come up with the most appropriate treatment plan to reach the common goal of a great outcome. I strive to treat each of my patients with respect, dignity and compassion by learning about their individual backgrounds and goals.
